experience-centered photography for couples that want a beautifully documented + meaningful wedding day
So you’re pregnant (congrats, mama!) and you’ve found yourself deep in the Google rabbit hole, typing “pregnancy photography near me” into the search bar at 11 p.m. while you wait for the heartburn to subside. Booking a maternity session can feel like one more thing on the giant list of pregnancy to-dos, but I promise this one is worth it.
As an Oregon maternity photographer, I get to walk both the first-time and seasoned moms through what a session looks like. So today, let’s chat about what to expect, when to book, what to wear, and how to make the day feel easy.

Pregnancy is wild. Your body is doing the most. You’re exhausted and excited and emotional and hungry all at once, and you might be wondering if you even want to be photographed right now.
I’m here to tell you: YES. Do it.
First, yes, your photos will look amazing on Instagram or framed on your walls. They’ll also become the photos your baby looks at one day to see what their first home looked like. Older you will forget how big your belly got and want to remember. Your partner, your parents, your future kids will all want to see this season of your life. A maternity photoshoot is one of those tiny gifts you give your future family, and it lasts forever.

The sweet spot is between 28 and 34 weeks. Far enough along that your bump is unmistakably a bump, but not so close to your due date that you’re swollen, exhausted, or worried about going into labor mid-shoot.
If this is your first baby, lean toward the later end. First-time moms often carry smaller, and the bigger bump tends to read better in photos. If you’ve had babies before, schedule earlier. Veteran moms usually pop sooner, and you’ll be more comfortable shooting at 28 or 30 weeks.
When you reach out about pregnancy photography near me searches, I’ll always ask your due date first so we can pick the right window together.
Outfits are the top thing my maternity moms ask about before a session, and I get it. Here’s my cheat sheet:
Flowy dresses are your best friend. Think long, soft, with some movement when you walk. Solid colors photograph beautifully, especially in earth tones, cream, deep green, and dusty pink. Lace and texture add a dreamy quality without being distracting.

Bring two looks if you can: one dressier (the long flowy moment) and one casual (your partner’s flannel and your favorite jeans, a cozy knit sweater, even a simple slip dress). The contrast adds variety and some visual intrigue to your photo gallery.
A few quick tips: avoid loud patterns and big logos, skip anything that cuts across your belly in a weird way, and shop your closet first. Your favorite cardigan that makes you feel beautiful is going to photograph better than something brand new you’re still figuring out how to wear comfortably.
One of the perks of working with an Oregon maternity photographer is location options. We’ve got so many beautiful locations within easy reach. A few of my favorites:
The Oregon Coast for moody beach sessions. Cannon Beach, Cape Kiwanda, and Hug Point are gorgeous year-round.
Forested spots for that lush PNW magic. Tryon Creek, Forest Park, or the Hoyt Arboretum if you’re in Portland.

Wildflower fields and meadows in late spring and summer. The hills outside the city open up with poppies, lupines, and bear grass.
Your own home. Don’t underestimate an in-home maternity session. The morning light streaming through your nursery window, your partner’s hand on your belly while you sit on the couch you’ll be nursing on in two months. Some of the sweetest photos I’ve ever taken have happened at home.
Maternity sessions are some of the best partner photos you’ll ever take. If you have a partner, bring them. The way they look at you right now is the whole story. Add older siblings into the mix if you have other kids who want to be part of the day. They might be over it in fifteen minutes, but those fifteen minutes are sure to result in some sweet big-sibling pictures you’ll cherish forever.

Last thing. If you’ve never done a photoshoot like this before, the idea of being the subject for a whole session can feel overwhelming, I get it. But just trust me here. I’ll make sure your maternity photoshoot feels like a slow, beautiful afternoon spent celebrating the tiny little human you’re about to meet.
I’ll direct you. I’ll give you something to do with your hands (promise). We’ll laugh, we’ll move around, and you’ll leave with a gallery you’ll look at for the rest of your life.
If you’ve been searching “pregnancy photography near me” and you’re somewhere in the Portland or wider Oregon area, head to my inquiry page and tell me about your due date, where you’re picturing the session, and any ideas you’ve been pinning. I’d be honored to be your Oregon maternity photographer! Just shoot me a note when you’re ready, and we’ll start planning.
