experience-centered photography for couples that want a beautifully documented + meaningful wedding day
Spring in Oregon is pure magic—and it’s one of the best times to take your spring senior photos. Picture the wildflowers in bloom, the light is soft and golden, and the green landscapes popping with color.
Whether you want an earthy, natural look or something a bit more urban and polished, Oregon in spring has something for every senior’s style.
Kate’s Spring Senior Photos are no exception. Kate’s photos showcase a mix of spring colors in the landscape, coupled with the golden sun. Her portraits are absolutely stunning!
In this post, I’ll break down everything you need to know to plan the perfect spring senior session, just like Kate’s! From what to wear, to how to make the most of this once-in-a-lifetime experience.
Spring is a fantastic time of year to take senior photos! First of all, the temperature is great in Oregon during the spring season. It is much easier to run around taking photos in the spring for your senior photo session, compared to the extremes of winter or summer photo sessions.
And, as mentioned before, spring is a time of year when the wildflowers are in bloom and the green fields are lush and vibrant with color. Making Oregon’s natural beauty the quintessential backdrop for spring senior photos.
Also, with spring, the end of the school year is soon approaching. This gives you more than enough time to take and use the photos for invitations or party decorations to celebrate your senior year, before summer arrives. It also provides enough time for you to have photos printed for friends and family at the end of the school year as little mementos.
Kate had three outfit changes within her session and all showcased her style perfectly. Kate wore two outfits with jeans, (one with a sweater and one with a tank top). She also wore a beautiful white dress with boots.
What I love is that Katie chose soft earthy tones to wear for this shoot. Her color choices really complimented the spring landscape colors and did not compete with them. This really allowed for Katie’s natural beauty to shine through in the photographs.
Because Oregon’s weather can be unpredictable, it’s good to bring outfit changes and/or dress in layers, as Kate did. This left her comfortable and prepared for what turned out to be a fabulous session!
f your location choice requires a lot of walking, make sure to bring footwear that is comfortable to walk in. You can always change into your stilettos or boots once we are ready to snap the photos!
Don’t forget your favorite accessories (any jewelry, etc.) that will make that special difference in your photographs. Some seniors choose to wear an important piece of jewelry that was a senior gift or belonged to a special relative.
This is entirely up to you, of course! But if you’re having trouble deciding, I’ve got plenty of great suggestions. What is most important is that you figure out what kind of vibe you’re looking for in your photos. For example, do you want fields and trees, like Kate? There are some spectacular close-up shots of Kate and also really wonderful candid shots of katie running through the fields. So, if this is what you’re looking for, a local meadow or Hoyt Arboretum might be the choice for you!
If you want something more modern and urban – then around Portland may be a more fitting scene for your spring senior photos.
If you’re having trouble picking a spot, I am here to help you!
First of all, I am here to make this a one-of-a-kind experience for you. I want to make sure this feels easy. I’m here to make the session feel relaxed and 100% authentic to you! This will allow for the best photos possible!
Before the Session: Tell me everything! We can plan out all of the details together or you can lay out exactly what you’d like for me. Either way, it’s great to iron these things out ahead of time, so let me know any requests or details, and I’ll make the rest happen as best I can.
During the Session: Throughout your session, I will be guiding you through the experience so that your poses are natural and you feel like yourself. This is all about having fun. We will laugh, explore nature and take some amazing photos along the way.
After the Session: Shortly after your session, I will send you a “sneak peek” of some of your photos and your full gallery will be available soon after that. If you’re looking for prints, announcements or graduation invitations, don’t worry I’ve got you covered. That’s why it’s so great to get these photos squared away in the spring. You will have the pop of color in your photos and they’ll be ready before the summer.
You are only a senior once in your lifetime. That’s why it is so important to me to provide you with spring senior photos that are true to who you are right now and capture this important milestone in your life. It is a time you’ll remember for years to come.
