You might have taken sunset photos before, but have you considered sunrise photos? It takes a special kind of person to get up before 7am to venture out into nature for photos, so if your partner is up for it, you might have found the one!
These dreamy sunrise photos with Claire and Will are now some of my favorites. We met bright and early in the morning to capture their love. May was a great time in Oregon to even get some wildflower photos!
Claire and Will reached out for a couples session and wanted a cozy, outdoorsy feel. We wanted to get those beautiful morning colors, which is a perk of doing a sunrise photo session. We found a rural spot in Oregon with mountains, tall grass, power lines, and a gravel path in the background.
This session honestly gives me such a cozy, small town, romantic feel! Some elements that added to the whole feel were Claire’s cardigan and long dress, her wavy hair, the patterned picnic blanket, and Will picking a little flower for Claire.

Couples sessions can be so much fun! They’re a great way to document your love without necessarily having to have an engagement or elopement. You can make them your own, and they’ll be so meaningful to hang around your house, put in an album, or post to social media. Life is short, so taking photos every now and then to document how much you’ve grown in your relationship is so important.
This area was great because it had a country feel, and we found a wildflower field which added to the romanticism. Look for spots that are going to have a quieter feel. I pretty much only take photos out in nature for the beauty and peacefulness, and there are plenty of options to choose from on the west coast.
Pairing your outfits is going to have a huuuuge impact on how your photos turn out! I always recommend neutrals, because they’ll go well together and look good against any background.
If you have a session you really love or an aesthetic that means a lot, send me your inspiration and I’ll help you find a location and help you put together the right details to achieve the vision you’re looking for.
Sunrise is a really fun time to take photos because it’s likely going to be less crowded than sunset, for a lot of areas. Even if we choose a popular area for your session, you’ll probably fin that the crowds are lighter.
It’s obviously important to know when the sun will rise in your area. Take a quick look at the sun rise and sunset schedule, and make sure you time for driving to the location you want your photos at. My couples adventure session includes 2 hours of coverage, so you’ll also want to make sure that you have time to get to the photo spot and for us to get a good 2 hours of photos in before your session ends.
If you’re planning an adventure session, it’s important to think through what you want to bring so that you’re comfortable the whole time! Here are some ideas for what to bring. They depend on the time of day and where exactly you’re going. When you book your session, we’ll chat through these to make sure you’re all prepared:
When you work with me, I’ll help you find a location that fits the story you want to tell. I know a lot of unique spots around the PNW and sometimes travel to California and bordering states, so be sure to check out my Instagram for a heads up on where I’ll be!
