experience-centered photography for couples that want a beautifully documented + meaningful wedding day
It’s hard to not get great photos during golden hour, but when you add in Mary’s Peak as the backdrop it’s downright impossible to get a bad shot. As a Salem senior photographer, it’s hard to put into words the magic of Mary’s Peak at golden hour. There’s just something about the way the light filters through the tall grass, the breathtaking 360-degree mountain views, Oregon’s native wildflowers swaying in the breeze, and the towering pines in the distance. This is the exact kind of setting that makes senior portraits feel like something right out of a fairytale.

After reading that description, it’s easy to see why Mary’s Peak is one of my favorite Salem-area photoshoot locations. I recently had the privilege of photographing two incredible seniors here, and I’m so excited to share their sessions with you.
But first, a huge thank you to Gwyn and Sienna for trusting me with their senior photos and for making the trek up the hill with me to capture these frame-worthy shots.
As a Salem senior photographer, I’m always looking for locations that blend natural beauty with a backdrop that doesn’t overpower the subject. Mary’s Peak delivers every time, as you’ll see in these photos of Gwyn and Sienna.

The tall, breezy grass adds movement and makes each photo feel alive. When the golden hour sun hits, the texture and color become even more magical. You don’t need props or elaborate setups when the landscape offers this much natural beauty. Depending on the season, Mary’s Peak also shows off lupines, Indian paintbrush, and other native wildflowers scattered across the hillside.
Getting up the peak takes a little effort, but the reward is worth it. It’s easy to find angles without people in the background, which is rare for popular Salem photography spots. Mary’s Peak offers unobstructed views of your subject and the mountains stretching out behind them on clear days.
Golden hour here is truly unmatched. The sun dips behind the mountains and creates soft, warm, dreamy light that photographers and their clients adore. It’s like a real-life Instagram filter.
Meet Sienna! From our planning session, I knew she wanted portraits with a natural, outdoorsy vibe that felt true to who she is. She brought her adorable dog and her sweet mom, which added a fun, family-focused twist. Those moments created some of my favorite shots — the kind you hold onto for years.

Sienna chose a few different outfits, from a casual jeans-and-top look to a long, flowy white dress that matched the landscape perfectly. Helping seniors choose outfits that feel confident and comfortable is one of my favorite parts of the process, and Sienna absolutely nailed every look.

My goal with senior portraits is always the same: help them feel relaxed so their real personality comes through. Sienna was a natural in front of the camera, and her photos show exactly who she is — playful, sweet, and so connected with her mom.

Now meet Gwyn! Much like Sienna, she was an absolute dream to photograph. Her session turned out stunning. She leaned into a cowgirl chic vibe for a few outfits, including a couple pairs of boots. She also brought a simple black tank top and jeans for a more laid-back look that photographed beautifully.

But the real showstopper was her flowy magenta dress during golden hour. Before the sun dipped, we caught dramatic clouds and darker tones in the sky. The contrast between her bright dress, the mountains behind her, and the stormy clouds made her look like she was standing on the edge of the world.

Then golden hour arrived, and the entire scene transformed. Warm light, glowing mountains, soft colors — one of my favorite sets of contrasting images I’ve captured in a long time. Mother Nature went all out that evening, and so did Gwyn. Absolutely stunning.
This is what I love so much about senior photography. No two sessions are ever the same because no two seniors are the same, and no two days in nature are the same. Two sessions in the same spot, each with a totally different result. I’m so lucky to do what I do and capture these moments in time for the special seniors I work with.
Both Sienna and Gwyn reached out to me because they were wanting something different from traditional senior portraits. They were both looking for an adventure, an unforgettable experience, and photos that felt like exactly who they are at this moment in their lives. That’s what we created together, and I’m so honored to have been a part of it.
